Coventry Buddhist Group has been meeting informally for the past ten years, to learn about buddhism, meditate and pray together. Over the years they have invited various teachers to visit, most notably Ven. Subhodi Bhikkhu, and Geshe Tashi Tsering, who provided us with many valuable teachings in our "Gompa in the Garage". In 1999 several members of the group took refuge (the formal acceptance of the Buddha's teaching) with Geshe Tashi. In the Autumn of 2006 it was decided to hold meditation classes in Coventry led by Ven. Lobsang Dawa a founder member of the group who took ordination with Geshe Tashi in 2003. These started in November that year, as Jamyang Coventry Study Group, under the guidance of Geshe Tashi and with the support of Jamyang Buddhist Centre, one the best established Buddhist Centres in the UK, dedicated to the preservation of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism in the West. The classes have been running ever since, and have covered basic meditation as well as the basics of Buddhism and Buddhist practice. In September 2007 these will be expanded to Saturday mornings, running two 5 week courses "Buddhism in a Nutshell" and "Meditation 101", introducing Buddhism and Meditation for begginers. |
